What a weekend!

Its certainly all happening at the Village Hall this weekend with a varied programme of events to suit everyone.

On Friday evening (24th May) the Cinema club will be showing their last film of the season with Salmon fishing in the Yemen. This 2011 comedy drama is loosely based on a true story. The film tells the story of a fisheries expert who is recruited to help realise a Sheikhs vision of bringing the sport of fly fishing to the Yemen desert, initiating an upstream journey of faith to make the impossible, possible. Starring Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas and Amr Waked.

The cafe style seating will be in place so please bring along your own refreshments. Village Hall doors open at 7.p.m with the film starting at 7.30.p.m. Admission is £5.00 per person on the door with accompanied under sixteens free. Sorry but at this event only guide dogs are allowed.

All proceeds from the film nights go towards the running costs of the Library and the committee thank you for the support. After a summer break the film shows will re-commence on the 27th September.

Members of the Library committee will be back in the hall on Saturday for the Coffee morning organised jointly between Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee and the Library Committee. The menu will comprise of bacon sandwiches, toasted teacakes and homemade cakes. A book and bric a brac stall will aid Village Hall funds and proceeds from the raffle will go to Library funds. The Library 100 club draw will also take place.

Its the turn on Sunday for members of the Village Hall Management Committee to be back in the Hall as they will be taking over the running of Broadways Fairs which traditionally holds a Flea Market and Craft Fair on the last Sunday of each month. Sheila the host of Broadway Fairs has not been too well and now sadly she has lost her partner Bill. We continue to wish Sheila a return to good health and send all our sympathies to her at this sad time.

The Hall is fully booked with stallholders selling a great variety of items, ranging from Vintage, Collectable, Gifts, Jewellery, Bric a Brac, Books, Jigsaws, Plants and Crafts. The event opens at 9.30.a.m until 3.30.p.m. Jo has kindly stepped in again to provide the light refreshments. The popular tombola stall raising funds for the Cats protection league will be there so too the stall raising funds for Manorlands. 50p admission on the door. Sunday Tea Dance

Come along to the Village Hall on Sunday and enjoy an afternoon of music from the movies and musicals. The event is organised by  Kath and Richard who kindly donate the proceeds from the event to Village Hall funds. The music is ideal for Popular sequence dancing, so come along and enjoy a spin around the best sprung dance floor in the North West. Admission is £3.00 ( cash only please ) per person on the door with tea and biscuits served in the interval. The event commences at 2.p.m until 4.p.m. If you are a non dancer but a music lover you will still enjoy the event and are assured of a warm and friendly welcome. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended last weeks Picnic Supper dance and in particular Kath and Richard who saved the day (night ). The electric supply went off around 8.p.m until around 10.30.p.m. Unfortunately Elizabeth was unable to continue with her live music so Kath and Richard stepped in with their great selection of dance music via their lap top. Elizabeth kindly stayed and helped Kath. Fortunately the Halls emergency lighting was just adequate to provide sufficient light for the dance to continue and heating wasn`t needed due to the rise in temperature. It showed real Dunkirk spirit and it was a night to remember!

A Dancing & Collectable weekend!

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening ( 10th May ) with a Picnic supper dance in the Village Hall. The live music will be provided by the Lancashire based Organist Elizabeth Harrison who knows the Blackpool Tower ballroom as well as she does the Village Hall. Please bring along your own Picnic supper. Tea and Coffee will be provided in the interval. The music commences at 7.30.p.m until 11.p.m. Admission is £6.00 per person on the door, cash only please. A raffle will aid Village Hall funds.

Gargrave Management Committee will be hosting the Collectable and Craft Fair on Sunday. There are lots of stallholders booked in for the event, both new faces and old. They will be selling a great selection of items including Collectables, Vintage, Bric a Brac, Jewellery, Gifts, Books, Pictures, Small furniture, Jigsaws and Crafts. There will also be stalls raising funds for the Village Hall itself, Manorlands and The Cats Protection League. Lots to see and buy, both unique and affordable. 50p admission on the door. The event opens at 9.30.a.m but please call earlier if it fits in better with your days plans as most stalls are set up by 9.a.m. Light refreshments are available until 3.p.m with thanks extended to Jo who has kindly stepped in to cover the catering whilst Sheila is unwell. The weekend ahead….

Just a brief reminder that the Village Hall will be open from 7.a.m until 10.p.m on Thursday 2nd May for you to cast your vote for the Mayor for the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. Please remember your photo ID.

Celebrate local history week on Saturday when Gargrave Library will be co-hosting with the Gargrave Heritage group a coffee morning and exhibition. On display will be historic information and photographs of old Gargrave, come along and hear about the Heritage groups latest book which is currently in the planning stages.

There will be bacon sandwiches, toasted teacakes and lots of homemade cakes. Open 9.30.a.m until 12.30.p.m.

 

Thank you so much to everyone who attended Sheila`s Fair last Sunday and their kind words and get well wishes for her. Fortunately Gargrave Village Hall Management committee were able to step in to run the event, and special thanks must go to Jo for providing the catering at such short notice. The next Collectable and Craft Fair will be on the 12th May and this will be the normal fair run by the Management Committee ( normally Broadway Fairs ( Sheila ) takes place on the last Sunday in each month and the Village Hall Management Committee hold a fair mid month ). Jo will be providing the catering on the 12th May. There will be a good variety of stalls at the event, see gallery photo to view one of the stalls.

A film and Fair weekend…

On Friday 26th April the Cinema club will be showing The Miracle Club. This 2023 comedy drama follows a group of working class women from Dublin who win a talent competition at their local church with the prize a pilgrimage to Lourdes, a place all the women have longed to visit. The film stars Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates, Laura Linney and Stephen Rea.

The customary Cafe style seating will be in place so please bring along your own refreshments. The Village Hall doors open at 7.p.m with the film starting at 7.30.p.m. Admission is £5.00 ( cash only please ) per person on the door, with accompanied under sixteens free. Sorry but only guide dogs are allowed in to this event. All proceeds from the Film nights go towards the running costs of the Community Library.

Sheila from Broadway Fairs is unfortunately unwell and was taken into hospital on Friday so Gargrave Management committee will be hosting the Flea Market and Craft Fair on Sunday from 9.30.a.m until 3.30.p.m. Fortunately Jo has been able to step in to undertake the catering and we are incredibly grateful for her to do so at such short notice.Light refreshments will be available until 3.p.m. There will be many stalls selling a great range of items from Collectables, Vintage, Bric a Brac, Books, Gifts, Jigsaws and Crafts. Stalls will also be raising funds for Manorlands and The Cats Protection League. Admission is just 50p per person on the door. The majority of stalls including the Cafe can only accept cash, so please come prepared! Further details 01757 229805. A Packed weekend….

Craven Crafters will be holding a Spring Fair on Saturday from 10.a.m. until 2.p.m. Local crafts people will be selling a great selection of their work. The girl guides will be selling light refreshments through the day. Free admission.

Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee will be hosting their monthly Vintage, Collectable and Craft Fair on Sunday in the Village Hall. There will be lots of stalls selling Vintage, Collectables, Bric a Brac, Books, Jigsaws, Gifts, Jewellery and Crafts. There will also be stalls raising proceeds for the  Cats Protection League and Manorlands. Bethany will have a plant stall outside the Village Hall. The event opens at 9.30.a.m until 3.30.p.m. but please pop in earlier if it fits in better with your days plans, most stalls are open by 9.a.m. Jo will be providing light refreshments as Sheila is not very well at present, these will be available from 9.30.a.m until 3.p.m. Admission is 50p on the door. A quiet weekend….

There are no public events taking place at the Hall this weekend ( 5-7th April).

Sheila from Broadway Fairs will be hosting the Easter Sunday Flea Market and Craft Fair. There will be lots of stalls selling Vintage, Collectables, Books, Jewellery, Gifts, Bric a Brac, Jigsaws and Crafts. Something for all the family, unique items at affordable prices. Please note the majority of stallholders can accept cash only, likewise with sales of food in the Cafe. The event opens at 9.30.a.m and closes at 3.30.p.m ( remember to change your clocks on Saturday night, spring forward an hour ). Light refreshments are available until 3.p.m.

A film and Coffee weekend….

Gargrave Cinema club will be showing The Great Escaper on Friday evening ( 22nd March ) in the Village Hall. The film is based on the true story of an eighty nine year old WW2 veteran who walks out of his care home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings in France. A moving film and terrific performances from both Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson.
