Message of thanks……

A huge thank you to all who helped at the annual Jumble sale at the weekend, we needed approximately thirty helpers to make the event possible. Special thanks to our Committee member Carol who bravely manned the kitchen by herself. The buyers picked up some great bargains and again many thanks to them for their support.

Our next fund raiser is the monthly Friday night Picnic dance which takes place this Friday from 7.30.p.m until 11.p.m. Live music will be provided by Cumbrian musician Denis Westmorland. Admission is £5.00 on the door. Please bring along your own refreshments.

Sheila Palmer of Broadway Fairs will be at the Hall next weekend on the 16th and 17th October when she will be holding a two day Craft and Christmas Fair. Some stallholders are there on both days. some just the one, so please pop in on both days, admission is just 50p. Light refreshments will be served in the match room until around 3.p.m on both days. Any enquiries for this event please call 01757 ( Selby code ) 229805.

Enjoyable weekend….

We can safely say that everyone enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend at the Village Hall.

Local families organised a charity dance on Friday evening and raised the marvellous sum of £450.00 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A double bill of Flea Markets took place on Sunday and Monday. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was great to catch up with stallholders and visitors both old and new. The next Flea Market will be held on Sunday 12th September.

The 2021/22 Pantomime production at the Village Hall will be OZ and sign up evenings will be held on Thursday 2nd and Thursday 9th September. The Principal roles for teens and adults will be considered on the 2nd September, please arrive at the Hall for 7.p.m. Please can parents bring along their children who would like to take part in the chorus roles on Thursday 9th September at 6.30.p.m. The production team would also welcome offers of help from anyone wishing to take on a back stage role or front of house. Please come along on either of the above dates.

The next date for a Coffee morning is scheduled for the 11th September.

Coffee morning news….

The sun is shining which means that following on from last weeks enjoyable event we shall be holding another outdoor Coffee morning this week, Saturday 12th June. Quite a brave decision with our great British weather but the report seems to be pretty good for the weekend . The current restrictions do not allow us to host an indoor Coffee morning so we shall be al fresco!

There will be a selection of homemade cakes and toasted teacakes to enjoy ( sorry no bacon butties at the moment ). Tables will be well spaced and there will be table service.

Hopefully if the weather is reasonable there will also be a book stall ( in aid of Hall funds ) and a bric a brac stall ( in aid of Manorlands ). These will be outdoors too. If you have a wedding coming up there may be a selection of wedding hats for sale in aid of Manorlands too.

In the event of  inclement weather we shall not be cancelling the event totally we shall instead be selling slices of homemade cake to takeaway and these can be purchased from a stall just inside the back door .

Fingers crossed , sun hats ( and wedding hats )at the ready!!

Latest News – May 2021

We are pleased to say that some activities will slowly be making a return to the Village Hall.

The Childrens Gym class was able to resume last month after the first stage of lockdown was lifted. This activity was allowed under government rules as it is an educational, supervised activity for children.

The Community Library was also allowed to re-open albeit it with one borrower or hub allowed in at any one time. The flow of borrowers is controlled by a volunteer who will be in the Hall foyer, whilst a second Volunteer is help on hand within the Library. Opening hours are Mondays 3-4.p.m, Fridays 2 – 4.p.m and Saturdays 10.a.m – Noon. Any further information on the facility please contact 01609 536547 or admin@gargravelibrary.co.uk

Other small classes and exercise classes are able to return from the 17th May though have to adhere to the conditions of their relevant risk assessments. We look forward to the return of Yoga and Pilates and so too the Art class and the Art group. The Snooker club members will also be able to resume their sport from this date.

The final stage of the end of lockdown will hopefully arrive as scheduled in June. It may then take time to assess any new rules and arrange adaptions to events ensuring compliance is in place for all activities. Therefore we please ask everyone to remain patient. We have a duty of care to the public who use our fantastic facilities and it is our responsibility to ensure that safety is paramount. Therefore we have taken the decision that we cannot take any new bookings which include social mixing of larger groups from August at the earliest.  Any events which are possible will be posted on this website as soon as it is practical to do so. We do hope to arrange an outdoor Coffee morning as soon as we can but this is dependant on the weather conditions.

We continue to sell a few items to raise funds for the Village Hall and thank anyone who has kindly donated goods. Last months Chicco pushchair sold very quickly.

This month we have a folding metal dog cage. Suitable for a small to medium size dog. Priced at £6.00.

News from the Village Hall ( 19.12.2020 )

The Village Hall will be closing over the Christmas period from Tuesday 22nd December until Monday 4th January.

The Community Library closes at Noon on the 19th December until Monday 4th January ( open 3-4.p.m )

Despite not being able to hold our Annual General Meeting in December it would still seem an appropriate time to thank Gargrave Village Hall committee members for all their work behind the scenes in this very difficult year. Special thanks to Robert, Simon and Lynn who have done sterling work over the year. Thanks too must be extended to our small group of Hirers who have been able to return with their classes. The risk assessments they have been duty bound to create have been comprehensive and compliant. They have acted in a very responsible manner and have ensured that safety has been paramount. Unfortunately the Tier restrictions introduced recently have had a knock on effect on pupil attendance so some teachers have found it financially difficult to continue. The loss of Tier 3 pupils has also altered the dynamics in some groups. Hopefully at some point in the New Year if nearby areas can get the Tier 3 dropped to a 2 Tier then pupils can return once more.

We still have hundreds of books in stock at the Village Hall, very reasonable prices, 50p per paperback, £1 hardbacks. If you have a particular author or title you would like please don`t hesitate to contact info@gargravevillagehall.org.uk  07989585564 or drop a note through the front door of the Hall. Any sales can be made at a social distance, cash only please. Proceeds for Village Hall funds.

We are also happy to support fund raising for Manorlands, again lots of household, general items available, please contact the above with any requests.

Please note on the gallery image on the front page, the tealights are now sold.

We wish all our patrons, friends and the wider community a very Happy and above all a Healthy Christmas.
