Weekend commencing Saturday 2nd February…..

A Coffee morning will be held on Saturday commencing at 9.30.a.m, hot buttered teacakes, bacon sandwiches and homemade cakes will be on the menu. A fun raffle and book stall will also aid funds.

Tickets can be purchased at the Coffee morning for the live performance by The Swing City Big band on Saturday 16th February. The seventeen piece band and their female vocalist will take you back to the golden days of the big band era, playing anything from Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra through to Michael Buble. Tickets are priced at 7.50 each and are also available by calling Caroline on 01756 749235 /07989585564 emailing info@gargravevillagehall.org.uk . Doors open at 7.30.p.m, there will be a licensed bar and bacon sandwiches for sale in the interval. The event forms part of the celebrations to mark the opening of the Village Hall sixty years ago.

Vintage singer Hattie Bee will be performing at the hall on Sunday afternoon, 17th February, she will be singing a great medley of songs from the 1950`s, afternoon tea is included in the ticket price of 7.50. Please contact Caroline to reserve a ticket.

Other events over the celebration weekend  will include the showing of the 1959 comedy film , Carton Browne of the Foreign office with Terry Thomas on Friday 15th February . Doors open at 7.p.m and admission is 5.00 on the door. There will be a prize for the best dressed 1950s individual or couple ( 1950`s dress optional ).

A Coffee morning will be held on Saturday 16th February from 10.a.m when there will be an exhibition of Gargrave Village Hall memorabilia to include a general nostalgic look back into the 1950`s. The Pantomime section will be selling tickets for their performance of The Sleeping Beauty which will take place from Thursday 28th February to Saturday 2nd March and Village Hall membership booklets will be on sale.

Remember those favourite sweets of yesteryear ? They will be on sale over the weekend from a Sweetcart .  Raffle prizes to be won too on the Saturday and Sunday.

Gargrave and Malhamdale community Library will be holding a film show on Friday evening. ( 18th January ). The featured film is the Oscar nominated animated ” The Bread Winner “. Set in 2001 Afghanistan it tells the inspiring story of a determined young girl, who following the capture of her Father, disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for and reunite her family.

The customary Café style seating will be in place so please bring along your own refreshments. Village Hall doors open at 7.p.m for a 7.30.p.m start. 5.00 admission on the door.

PLEASE NOTE THE MONTHLY BINGO IS CANCELLED IN JANUARY.

As part of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Village Hall the next film show on Friday 15th February will feature a 1959 comedy film with Terry Thomas in the lead role. A Pathe News reel from the same year will also be shown. Enjoy an evening of nostalgia, 1950`s dress is optional and there will be a prize for the best dressed couple or individual.

Tickets are now available for the Saturday night celebration to mark the opening of the Village Hall back in 1959. The seventeen piece Swing City Big Band will be performing live at the Hall on the 16th February. The band together with their female vocalist will be re-living the golden days of big band music. There will be a raffle and licensed bar. Also available to reserve are tickets for the afternoon tea on Sunday 17th February when Vintage singer Hattie Bee will be performing her fantastic range of songs. Admission is 7.50 to include homemade afternoon tea.

Cumbrian musician Dennis Westmorland will be providing the live music for ballroom and sequence dance on Friday evening ( 11th January ). Admission is 5.00 on the door. Please bring along your own picnic supper. Dancing commences at 7.30.p.m.

The weekend ahead….

Gargrave and Malhamdale Community Library Group will be busy this forthcoming weekend . The film ” Little Miss Sunshine” will be shown on Friday evening it is an hilarious comedy featuring Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell and Toni Collette.

Admission is 5.00 on the door. Accompanied under sixteens are free. Doors open at 7.pm for a 7.30.p.m start.

Café style seating so please bring along your own refreshments.

The group will be holding a Coffee morning on Saturday commencing at 10.a.m. The Christmas draw of the 100 club will also take place.

A Picnic supper dance will be held on Friday evening commencing at 7.30.p.m. The live music for ballroom and sequence dance will now be provided by Alan Cookson, unfortunately Bill Johnson is unwell so not able to play. Alan will be including some festive tunes in his repertoire. Admission is five pounds on the door. Please bring along your own picnic supper.

Many thanks for all the positive messages about last weeks Flea Market, Collectable and Craft Fair. We are pleased everyone enjoyed the great selection of stalls . The Management Committee run Fairs have a small break now and return on March 17th 2019. Broadway Fairs will be back in action on 27th January 2019.

Festive Sunday…..

Visit Gargrave Village Hall on Sunday it  will be the perfect opportunity to buy Christmas presents and more….

 

A Christmas Flea Market, Collectables, Vintage, New gifts and Craft Fair will be held on Sunday from 10.a.m ( most stalls will be on site by 9.a.m so please do call earlier if it fits in better with the rest of the days plans ). This will not only be the last Fair of 2018 but also the biggest, a capacity amount of stalls selling both unique and affordable gifts. There will also be a Tombola. Need a jigsaw puzzle? One stall will be selling lots of great quality puzzles. Still wanting a Christmas wreath – look no further!

Members of Gargrave Management Committee will be providing homemade refreshments: meat and potato pies, bacon sandwiches, toasted teacakes, mince pies, Christmas cake and much much more.

Avoid the crowds of the local festive markets, who wants to pay to park, be jostled by the crowds, battle with the dismal weather –  none of this at Gargrave Village Hall, free car parking , a  relaxing shopping experience in a warm and comfortable hall. Only 50p admission.

The Library film show on Friday evening ( 30th November ) will be The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society.  Don`t forget the next film show on Friday 21st December, a comedy Little Miss Sunshine.

Come along on Saturday the 1st December and support the local Pantomime group who will be raising funds by holding a Coffee morning.

Whats On…..

The Christians in Gargrave group will be holding a Christmas Fayre and  Coffee morning on Saturday ( November 24th ) from 10.a.m until Noon. The proceeds will go towards St. George`s Crypt in Leeds which is a charity caring for vulnerable and homeless people. There will be stalls, games and entertainment as well as Coffee and Mince Pies. A raffle and chocolate Tombola will also help to raise funds. The event runs from 10.a.m until Noon.

Sheila of Broadway Fairs will be holding her last Flea Market and Allsorts Fair before Christmas on Sunday from 10.a.m until 3.30.p.m. Admission is only 50p. There will be lots of stalls selling a good variety of items. Light refreshments served until 3.p.m.

Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee will be holding their last Fair before Christmas on Sunday 9th December. The event is already fully booked with stalls, ranging from Antiques and Collectables to Bric a Brac and Crafts. There will be a large selection of goods,all at affordable prices. Why not come along and purchase those extra gifts that have been so hard to find elsewhere. Avoid the crowds at the big Christmas markets and shopping centres and enjoy homemade refreshments provided by members of Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee. Open 10.a.m ( please feel free to come along slightly earlier if it is more convenient for fitting in with the rest of the days plans ), refreshments available 9.a.m until 4.p.m. Event closes at 4.p.m.

Looking well ahead – On February the 14th 2019 the Village Hall will be celebrating its 60th anniversary and the Management Committee are planning a weekend of celebrations. They are delighted to announce that they have secured the booking of The Swing City Big Band to play on Saturday 16th February, other plans will be publicised soon. Watch this space!!!!
