Tribute act….

Sorry no Coffee morning this Saturday ( the homemade cakes and toasted teacakes will be back next weekend, served from 10.a.m – 1.p.m on Saturday 14th in the Café area, Jumble sale in the main Hall and side rooms ).

Andy Wiseman will be at the Village Hall on Saturday night as Neil Diamond, performing some of his greatest hits. Tickets are priced at 6.00 each and are available from the Dalesman Café and Gillians Hairdressers in the Village or on the door on the night. Please bring along your own refreshments, Café style seating and plenty of room for dancing. A great nights entertainment from this popular act. Doors open at 7.p.m.

The annual Jumble sale is fast approaching and there are a large number of items already stored and ready for sale. Donations are arriving daily and can be accepted up until 5.p.m on the 13th September. Gifts for the Tombola stall also gratefully received . The event opens at 10.a.m on Saturday 14th September and closes at 1.p.m. Light refreshments will be available. Only 20p admission.

If you are unable to attend on the 14th, a second opportunity is available to purchase the Jumble on the 15th September when one of the side rooms will be assigned for unsold items at the monthly Flea Market, Collectables and Crafts Fair . There will of course be many other stalls selling Vintage, Collectables and Crafts in the main hall.

Bank Holiday Weekend….

The Bank Holiday weekend kicks off with a Picnic Supper dance in aid of Manorlands. The event is organised by Brian and Kath Wellock and their friends ( further details 01729 830217 ). Scottish musicians ” Bon Accord” will be providing the accordian music for Ballroom and Sequence dancing. Admission is 5.00 on the door, please bring along your own picnic supper. The event commences at 7.30.p.m.

Come along on both Sunday and Monday and pick up a bargain! Sheila of Broadway Fairs will be holding her Flea Market and Allsorts Fair on Sunday from 10.a.m , lots of stalls with a good variety of items to purchase. The Village Hall Management team will be holding a Flea Market, Vintage, Collectables and Crafts Fair on Monday, some stalls will be at the Hall on both days but the majority for just the one so there will be a good change over of items on the Monday, well worth a visit each day.

We are also delighted to welcome along a new plant stall, which will be at everyone of the Flea Markets in the future.

Only 50p admission on both days, with light refreshments available from 10.a.m until 3.p.m each day.

Monday opening 10.a.m – 4.p.m ( Please come along earlier if it fits in better with the days plans, most stalls are set up by 9.a.m. )

Coffee morning….

The Management committee will be holding a Coffee morning on Saturday from 10.a.m. Please come along and enjoy bacon sandwiches, hot buttered teacakes and loads of homemade cakes. A fun raffle, book stall and bric a brac stall will also aid funds. Buy slices of cake to take home too.

The annual Craven Fushsia and Geranium show will be held on Sunday. Prize winning entries can be viewed from Noon. There will also be plants for sale and light refreshments available throughout the afternoon. Further details please contact 01756 752175.

Whats on next???

Firstly a big thank you to an incredibly talented trio who performed last Sunday at the Village Hall. Arthur Geldard sang songs made famous by the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Co, and did he sing well – what a fantastic voice. He was backed by two equally talented musicians in the form of John Fuller and Trish Ferrarin. They all really enjoyed performing at the Village Hall and like everyone else enjoyed the delicious homemade afternoon tea which was served in the interval.

This weekend we have a Coffee morning on Saturday commencing at 10.a.m. Bacon sandwiches, hot buttered teacakes ( well the weather may cool down by then ) and homemade cakes are on the menu. A fun raffle and book stall will also aid funds.

Broadway Fairs will be holding a Flea Market and Allsorts Fair on Sunday from 10.a.m until 3.30.p.m. Light refreshments served until 3.p.m. 50p admission.

 

Sunday afternoon entertainment….

Picnic supper dance on Friday evening with live music for ballroom and sequence dance from Cumbrian Musician Denis Westmorland. Admission 5.00 on the door. Please bring along your own Picnic supper.

A Coffee morning will be held on Saturday morning from 9.30.a.m. Bacon sandwiches, hot buttered teacakes and homemade cakes will be served until Noon. We will be pleased to welcome past pupils and their friends from the Chance2Dance school. Jaki will be leaving the area soon and this will be her last teaching lesson at Gargrave Village Hall after a number of years. Please come along if you would like to pass on best wishes, there will be tiny breaks between the half hour classes, or call in before the first class commences at 9.a.m. or when there will be a swift lunchtime break at 1.p.m.

Tickets can be reserved for Sundays musical afternoon and tea via any of the helpers at the Coffee morning.

Homemade afternoon tea and live music with songs from The Great American songbook – what could be better???

Come along to the Village Hall on Sunday afternoon and enjoy listening to Arthur Geldard singing songs made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Joining Arthur on stage will be Trish Ferrarin and John Fuller. The talented musicians are all a big part of the Clitheroe and Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues scene, an area renowned for the development and growth of music in the North West.

And all that Jazz ( and swing )….

There will be the opportunity on Sunday to purchase tickets directly from the hall for the upcoming performance from The Ribble Valley Jazz big band. The twenty two band members are experienced musicians who have helped to make Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley a driving force in the development and growth of Jazz music. The group under the direction of Paul. J. Rigby will be playing at the hall on Friday 21st June, doors open 7.p.m. Tickets are priced at 10.00 each and will be available on Sunday from 7.30.a.m until 4.p.m at the Gargrave Village Hall Flea Market, Vintage and Collectables Fair. Not giving too much away, a couple of numbers on the night will be the iconic 1942 hit from Glenn Miller ” A string of pearls” and the more recent song ” How sweet it is”.

There will be a licensed bar and hot beef sandwiches for sale in the interval.

This weekend, the musical entertainment will be provided by Alan Cookson who will provide the live music for ballroom and sequence dance on Friday evening from 7.30.p.m. Please bring along your own refreshments for your Picnic supper. Admission 5.00 on the door.

Book Fair

Come along to the Book Fair on Saturday when there will be thousands of Antiquarian and second hand books for sale, covering every subject imaginable. The event kicks off at 10.a.m until 4.p.m. Light refreshments available until 3.p.m. Admission 60p.

Don`t miss out on a ticket for the Ribble Valley Jazz big band night on Friday 21st June. The twenty two band members will be playing a mixture of Swing, Glenn Miller and ballads up to the current era. The event will suit both dancers and non dancers as Café style seating will be set up at the back of the hall but an area of the famous dance floor will be clear for some Strictly moves! The weekend ahead….

A dance in aid of the Air Ambulance will be held in the Village Hall on Friday evening from 7.30.p.m. Live music for ballroom and sequence dance will be provided by Cumbrian musician Denis Westmorland. Tickets are priced at 7.50 each ( pay on the door ) which will include a plated supper. There will also be a licensed bar and a raffle. Further details from Brian or Kath 01729 830217.

The North West Fuchsia Society invite everyone along to their Fuchsia and Plant Fayre which will be held on both Saturday and Sunday. Experts will be in attendance to demonstrate the growing of standards, baskets, bonsais, triphyllas and hybridising. There will be advice on growing plants and in particular how to take cuttings. Refreshments will be available and a tombola and general plant sale will also compliment the event which has free admission. If you came along and enjoyed the live music from The Swing City big band in February then we have more of the same on Friday 21st June, albeit a different band. The talented and popular Ribble Valley Jazz band will be performing at the hall under the musical direction of Paul.J.Rigby. The twenty two band members play saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm. A male and female vocalist complete the line up. The set will include that iconic Glenn Miller number, A string of pearls, first performed back in 1942. Without giving too much away another favourite the band  will be playing is How sweet it is to be loved by you. There will be a licensed bar , raffle, and light refreshments available in the interval. Admission is by ticket which are priced at 10.00 each. Bank Holiday weekend…..

Gargrave and Malhamdale Community Library will be showing the comedy/drama film ” Green book” on Friday night in the Village Hall. Admission is 5.00 on the door. Café style seating so please bring along your own refreshments. 7.p.m for a 7.30.p.m start.

The Management Committee will be holding a Coffee morning on Saturday from 9.30.a.m. Bacon sandwiches, hot buttered teacakes and homemade cakes are on the menu. A fun raffle and book stall will also aid funds. Please come along and support the event as the Management Committee will not be holding another Coffee morning until July due to other bookings which  include a couple of other Charity Coffee mornings.

Broadway Fairs will be holding their regular last Sunday in the month Flea Market and Allsorts Fair on Sunday commencing at 10.a.m. Light refreshments served until 3.p.m. Thanks to all who attended last weekends Vintage Fair ( photo`s to follow in the gallery section of the website ), Sheila of Broadway Fairs has booked another Vintage Fair for the 2nd and 3rd November 2019.

We have a vacancy for a part time cleaner to solely look after the facilities in the front entrance ( ladies, gents, disabled ), the Library and the Kitchen area. Ideally it would suit someone in the Village who could work flexible hours to suit themselves ( and around bookings ) coming in a few times during the week to either clean or check that everything was in order, this may include occasional weekend work. Hours would be around 5/6 hours per week. Pleasant working conditions and the flexibility to work around  other responsibilities. Please contact Sue 01756 748758.

 

Vintage treasures and table tennis!!

A Vintage Fair weekend has been organised by Broadway Fairs and will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. Some stallholders will be there on both days but some on just the one so it is worth calling in on both days to catch something different. There will be a good array of Vintage items to buy, crockery, jewellery, clothing, books, small furniture and so much more. Light refreshments available until 3.p.m. Fair open from 10.a.m. until 3.30.p.m. ( most stallholders will be set up by 9.a.m so please call early if it fits in better with your days plans ).

Tickets will be available to buy for the Ribble Valley Jazz big band who will be appearing live at the Hall on Friday 21st June. Please ask to see Caroline ( stalls by the Piano ), ticket cost 10.00 per person. There will be a licensed bar and hot sandwiches to purchase in the interval. Café style seating on the night but also an area free for dancing  too.

Now to Table Tennis!! – The Village Hall committee have recently purchased a brand new full size table tennis table. The plans are to use the Annex each Friday from 6.p.m until 10.p.m for this new venture. Please contact Peter on 01756 748758 to register your interest. Ideally we would be delighted if a keen player or players would be interested in running a club, this would involve setting up a timetable for games, possibly organising matches and collecting the subs.  The Annex is a light, warm, comfortable room and seating is available for watching the games. Why not get involved in a new hobby and keep fit, its better than pounding the cold wet streets!
