Final film of the season.. and costume sale weekend.

Please come along to enjoy the final film of the season on Friday evening ( May 29th ) at the Village Hall. The Cinema club will then be taking a break with the next showing of films commencing in September.

The 2025 big hearted award winning British comedy drama The Ballad of Wallis Island will be shown on Friday evening commencing at 7.30.p.m with the Village Hall doors opening at 7.p.m. The drama follows Charles, an eccentric lottery winner, who lives alone on a remote Welsh Island and who dreams of getting his favourite but washed up group of folk musicians to put on a concert. Starring Tim Key, Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan.

The customary Cafe style seating will be in place so please bring your own refreshments. Tickets are £5.00 on the door, cash only please. Accompanied under sixteens are free. Sorry but only guide dogs are allowed to this event.

Gargrave Pantomime group have hundreds of costumes they need to sell to make space in their costume cupboard. There are a wide selection of traditional Pantomime costumes as well as Ballet Company attire. The sale will take place in the main hall over a two day period on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the high level of interest the sale on Saturday is by appointment only, please email gargravepanto@gmail.com for further details. Men, dance and Coffee!!

The weekend commences with a meet up for the menfolk. The fortnightly Man Friday ( 8th May )  will be held from 10.a.m until Noon in the Village Hall match room.A great opportunity for a social chat with unlimited hot drinks, homemade cake and biscuits, £3.00 admission. Cards, dominoes, scrabble and chess available if wished. Access to the match room is via the back door, just to the right of the main hall and immediate turn right on entry.

Lancashire Organist Elizabeth Harrison will be providing the live music for modern sequence dancing on Friday evening from 7.30.p.m until 11.p.m. Elizabeth is not only familiar with the stage at Gargrave but also the stage at Blackpool tower ballroom. Please bring along your own picnic supper, tea and coffee will be provided in the interval. Admission is £6.00 per person on the door, cash only please. A raffle will raise funds for the Village Hall.

A Coffee morning will be held on Saturday morning organised jointly between Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee and Gargrave Library committee. On the menu will be bacon sandwiches,toasted teacakes and lots of homemade cakes. A book and bric a brac stall will raise funds for the Village Hall and a raffle will aid Library funds.

Man Friday and Local Hero.

The fortnightly meet up for the menfolk seem to come around so quickly, we are back to a man Friday morning ( 22nd May ) this week. A chance to meet up for a social chat, peruse the old books and memorabilia on Gargrave and have unlimited hot drinks, biscuits and homemade cake for just £3.00. Open 10.a.m to Noon in the match room, access via the back door, turn immediate right on entry. Cards, dominoes, chess and scrabble available if wished.

For anyone attending the D4 driver medicals on Saturday morning, please follow signs to the Annexe, via the back door entrance to the back tight of the main Hall. Any enquiries please direct to D4.

 

Tea Dance

A Spring tea dance will be held in the main Hall on Sunday afternoon from 2.p.m to 4.p.m. The event is hosted by Cath and Richard who will be providing some great music for popular sequence dances. Admission is £3.00 per person on the door, cash only please, this includes tea,coffee and biscuits which will be served in the interval. All proceeds will go toward Village Hall funds.

Looking ahead very much to the future, we will be hosting an information and help morning on Thursday 11th June. The Cyber line van will be in attendance to give help and advice for staying safe online. Representatives from our local parish council, Carers resource, Dementia forward and North Yorkshire fire and rescue prevention team will be in the hall to answer any questions, and provide information and advice. The library will be open and will be able to help anyone applying to NYCC for bus passes or blue badges. The event is very much in the planning stages so we are hoping to welcome other groups to the informative morning.

We shall also be holding a Coffee morning.

A busy Friday….

The fortnightly Man Friday morning will be held, yes you`ve guessed on Friday!

The opportunity to come along and have a social chat with other men, unlimited hot drinks, cake and biscuits for £3.00. There are cards, dominoes, scrabble and chess available but generally everyone is too busy chatting to be competitive. Man Friday is held in the Match room, entrance via the back door and immediate turn right on entry, 10.a.m until Noon. We hope everyone notices some difference in the sound quality as some sound boards have been fitted this week to eradicate the slight echo in that room. Many thanks to Robert and Peter for undertaking the work.

Phillip Randall will be providing the live music for the picnic supper dance on Friday evening. Please bring along your own Picnic supper, tea and coffee will be provided in the interval. Admission is £6.00 per person on the door, cash only please. A raffle will aid Village Hall funds. The music commences at 7.30.p.m until 11.p.m.

Easter Sunday Flea Market, Collectable and Crafts.

The Hall and side rooms will be full of stalls on Easter Sunday selling Antiques, Collectables, Vintage,Bric a Brac, Books, Gifts, Jewellery, Small furniture, Pictures, Wax melts, Jigsaws, Plants and Crafts. There will be stalls raising funds for Manorlands Hospice, The  Cats Protection League ( including a tombola) and the Village Hall itself, Literally something for everyone with both unique and affordable items to purchase. Food is served all day. 50p admission. Open 9.30.a.m until 3.30.p.m. Please  call earlier if it fits in better with your days plans as most stalls are set up by 9.a.m. The majority of stalls can only accept cash please and this includes sales of food. Card payments are available for the admission fee and for sales from the Village Hall stall. There is a cash machine on the high street in Gargrave for anyone new to the area. Enquiries 07989 585564. The weekend kicks off with the fortnightly Man Friday ( March 27th ) which is held in the Match room on Friday morning from 10.a.m until Noon. An opportunity for the Gents to catch up with a social chat. Dominoes, cards and scrabble are available if wished. Unlimited hot drinks, biscuits and cake for just £3.00.

Gargrave Cinema club will be showing Downton Abbey, The Grande finale on Friday evening at 7.30.p.m. Village Hall doors open at 7.p.m. Admission is £5.00 cash on the door, with accompanied under sixteens free. Cafe style seating is in place so please bring along your own refreshments.

Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee jointly with Gargrave Library Committee will be holding a Coffee morning on Saturday from 10.a.m until Noon. A Picnic supper dance will be held on Friday evening in the main Hall with live music for modern sequence dancing provided by Lancashire musician Alan Cookson. Please bring along your own Picnic supper, tea and coffee will be provided in the interval. Admission is £6.00 per person ( cash only please at this event). The music commences at 7.30.p.m until 11.p.m.

Many thanks for all the positive comments about the Book Fair and Collectable and Craft Fair which were held last weekend on the Saturday and Sunday. So pleased that everyone enjoyed the events. Really nice to see both returning customers and new ones too.

A Packed Weekend…..

Spare a thought for Robert our Caretaker this weekend he certainly has his work cut out ( also Steve our Assistant Caretaker who takes care of the late night closing ).

The busy weekend begins on Friday evening the 6th March with the Annual supper dance which is organised by Gargrave Show Committee and is in aid of their funds. Denis Westmorland will be playing the live music for modern sequence dancing . We are delighted to welcome two authors to our first Book Fair of the year on Saturday. Mary Brown will be selling copies of her book, Mrs. Brown and friends- the morning rush. This is a delightful story filled with whimsical characters and enchanting adventures which will captivate young readers.

Ben Kilgallon is a medieval fantasy novelist and his books are set in the world of Fulminia. The making of a Hero is a coming of age story and A Kingdom in Peril is a direct sequel.

There will also be a huge selection of books to purchase from the book sellers who come from all over the North of England and who bring with them a wealth of knowledge. The selection ranges from general paperbacks and hardbacks which cover every genre through to antiquarian and collectable volumes. The event opens at 10.a.m and closes at 4.p.m. 50p Admission. Friday 13th – a busy one!

Something for everyone on Friday 13th February at the Village Hall.

Commencing with Man Friday , a social morning for Gents to have a good catch up and put the world to rights. Unlimited hot drinks and biscuits ( maybe even cake) included in the £3 admission charge. Match room 10.a.m until Noon, entrance via the kitchen door then immediate turn right on entry.

Head to the Annexe at 2.p.m for a soap making demonstration at the 22 group meeting. £11 for non members this includes the soap which you will have made and may take home and also includes refreshments.

Dance the night away in the main Hall from 7.30.p.m when local group Silhouette will be providing the live music. Please bring along your own Picnic supper, tea and coffee will be provided in the interval. Admission is £6.00 per person on the door, cash only please. A raffle will also aid Hall funds. The event closes at 11.p.m.

The following day, Sunday 8th March , there will be  the monthly Collectable and Craft Fair.
